Candidate Comment

Dear Neighbor;

    My name is Bill Bates. I am currently an elected Town Meeting Member from precinct six. I have served as a Town Meeting Member since 1995. I was last elected in May of 2001 to serve a three year term however because of the federal census, and the resulting new precinct boundaries, my home has shifted from precinct six to precinct four.

    I would like to represent you as a Town Meeting Member from precinct four for many reasons.

    First and foremost, I deeply believe in the representative town meeting form of government.

    This form of representation is said to be "THE STRONGEST OF ALL CITADELS OF CIVIC LIBERTY - THE PUREST OF ALL DEMOCRACIES." In addition, I have found, that to represent a neighborhood as a Town Meeting Member, it is crucial that finance committee hearings preceding town meetings be attended. Unfortunately, only a handful of the 120 Town Meeting Members attend these important hearings. We have many serious issues facing our great town. I will continue to attend all necessary meetings to be informed and make the difficult decisions that will effect our town's future.

    To let you know a little bit about myself, I was a twenty-one year resident of Collins St. in Danvers before moving to Lobao Drive. I am married to Priscilla and we have two daughters, Samantha a sixth grader at Dunn Middle School and Nicole a pre-kindergarten student. My wife and I own and operate an independent convenience store in Middleton, MA . In addition I have for the last four years been a volunteer host of a local cable access program called Danvers Front Page. The goal of this program is to inform the general public on issues facing our town in the political spectrum. Also, I was recently elected to serve as a member of the board of directors of DCAT, Danvers Community Access Television. This is a non-profit corporation that is responsible for the development of a membership driven, public, education and government (PEG) cable television system in the town of Danvers.

    I respectfully request one of your fifteen votes for Town Meeting Member in precinct four.

I AM NUMBER ONE ON THE BALLOT       PLEASE VOTE MAY 7, 2002
