Candidate Comment

In the year since I was elected to the Danvers School Committee, I’ve worked diligently to try and assure that our children get the best possible education that we can provide. I seek re-election because I want to continue this work.

There are two great challenges that our schools face. First, we must improve the physical conditions of our middle school and high school. We need to provide our Middle School students with a safe healthy and positive place to learn. We must modernize our high school building so that the school remains accredited. If our students are to compete successfully, either in moving on to college or into the workforce, we must give them the tools to do so. These tools include good learning environments and a diploma from an accredited high school.

The best way to meet these needs is by implementing the proposal to reopen the Holten Richmond and renovate our high school. I will work tirelessly to see that this project moves forward.

The second great challenge facing us, meeting our commitment to meet high educational standards, even if our resources remain limited. Toward this end, we need to empower our administrators and teachers to try new ideas and seek new sources of revenue whenever possible. I will encourage and assist in this process.

I believe that my background and experience on the School Committee, as an active participant in parent teacher groups, as a former chairman of the High School Middle School building committee give me the tools to help our school system meet these challenges.

I am committed to our schools as a parent as a school committee member and proud citizen of the Danvers community. I would appreciate your vote on May 7.
