Election 2002 Overview

Welcome to the Danvers 2002 Election Overview Pages.

The following townwide positions are up for election:

Moderator for one year.
Selectman, one for a term of three years.
School Committee, two for a term of three years each.
Trustees for the Peabody Institute Library, three for a term of three years each.
Housing Authority, one for a term of five years.
Town Meeting Members:

Because the 2000 U.S. Census demonstrated a shift in
population in Danvers, Precinct district lines had to be redrawn,
as such all 120 Town Meeting seats are up for election.

15 Town Meeting Members will be elected for each precinct.
The terms will be decided as follows: The 5 candidates who recieve
the most votes (totals 1-5) will serve for 3 years, the 5 candidates
who recieve the next 5 best vote totals (6-10) will serve for 2 years,
and the final 5 candidates who recieve high
totals (11-15) will serve for 1 year.

Important Dates:

April 17   The last day to register to vote is Wednesday at 8 p.m.
April 24   SEN Candidate Debate. 7-9, NSCC, Ferncroft Road.
April 25   DCAT's Front Page Live - Selectman Candidate Roundtable
April 28   Reunite Danvers 'Meet the Candidates' night, 6-8, Kings Grant
May 1     Council on Aging election forum, 10 a.m., Senior Center
May 1     DCAT's Front Page Live - School Committee Candidate Rountable
May 7     The election will take place Tuesday, May 7. Polls open at 7:00 a.m.
May 20   The annual Town Meeting will convene.
