Candidate Comment :

I am running for selectman because of a strong belief in our Town form of Government. I will work with out town

leaders during these fiscally trying times to help address the concerns of all our citizens. Some of these are traffic,

loss of open space and the strain development puts on public services.

My support for the schools was demonstrated in April 2000 when as Chairman of the School Committee I suggested

the formation of a group of concerned citizens to explore the potential use of the Holten/Richmond School. This

group known as the BAC recommended the use of the Holten/Richmond and I support this project. However, the

School Administration and School Committee should be cautioned that the Taxpayers can not afford a "blank

check" approach going forward with the High School project.

Our Board of Selectman as our policy making body has an influence on how our Town will develop. It is important

for the Board to be cognizant of its decisions and policies and the affect on Danvers for the future. A decision to

allow for development has an impact on open space. A decision to buy open space has an impact on housing. A

decision to allow for greater development than allowed by Zoning has an impact on traffic and schools. A decision

to change Tax classification has an impact on all our citizens and businesses. In short these complex issues require a

Board of Selectman that has the creativity to establish policies that will balance the needs or the entire community.

Danvers has been able to retain its strong form of town government despite the complex issues inherent with growth.

We are fortunate to have many community volunteers to serve on our boards and commissions. I have served with

many of these volunteers on the Zoning Board of Appeals, Preservation Commission, Open Space and Recreation

Committee, and Danvers Housing Assistant Trust. I have also been an elected Town Meeting Member and elected to

the School Committee.

I wish to continue to serve the community as your selectman. To accomplish this I need your vote on May 6.
